“I hope for Mick,” Esteban Ocon prefers Mick Schumacher as teammate for 2023
Esteban and Mick
Esteban Ocon ahead of the Belgium Grand Prix has revealed that he would like to see his dear friend Mick Schumacher in an Alpine livery next year.
The 2022 driver market has been highly active recently and has thrown quite a few curve balls that have thrown plans of many teams out of the window.
Moreover, the Enstone-based team has been at the center of all the chaos that has taken place. While the team is going through an uncertain time regarding its lineup for 2023, the ever-smiling Esteban Ocon has also had his say on the second seat at Alpine.
The Frenchman has a deal in place with the team until the end of 2024 and while shedding light on the shenanigans that have taken place over the other seat on the team, Ocon has said, “I was surprised like everyone else. I learned about it the same way you did on social media…“
“I’m sad to see Fernando is leaving. We get on well. We were doing a good job together. Now I trust the team to find the best possible replacement in order to develop the team.”
Esteban Ocon would like Mick Schumacher to fill the void left by Fernando Alonso
Esteban and Mick are well known for their bromance within the paddock as they are usually seen together when not doing their duties for their respective teams.
Esteban was recently asked who would he like as a partner for 2023 and he said, “It doesn’t matter as long as he’s competitive. A guy with experience for sure. I hope for Mick [Schumacher] because he’s a very, very good friend.”
The 25-year-old has made it clear that he would love to see Mick Schumacher as his teammate for next season but at the end of the day, the ultimate decision-making power lies with the team.
Mick is in his second season with the Haas F1 team and has only recently started showing signs of improvement, however, considering the crashes that he has had so far in his young career, there are doubts as to how strongly the French team is going to consider the 23-year-old.
Additionally, the former eight-time Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo has also become a free agent, and as per rumors, is one of the favorites to sign with Alpine.
Mick has got an outside chance and it is going to be fascinating to see who ultimately is going to end up in the coveted second seat on the French F1 team for 2023.
