“I made a mistake,” Sergio Perez disappointed about the first lap crash in Austria
Sergio Perez
Sergio Perez and Red Bull had high hopes for the Austrian Grand Prix after he started P5 on the grid. The start of the race was a good one for Verstappen, but after only a few corners, while Checo was trying to pull a move from the outside on George Russell, they made contact, and Perez spun, falling to th/e back of the grid. After a pitstop and running a few laps, Checo was called into the pits because of major damage, and had to retire early from the race.
It has become disappointing for the Mexican, as the past events such as the retirement in Canada and now the DNF in Austria has made him lose a lot of potential points. Even during Q3 in Austria, his lap time was deleted and he had to start from P13, and making up all of those places in the Sprint Race did not come out to be much useful because of the events that followed up in the race. Perez said that with some drivers, it is relatively easier to battle closely, while pointing to this incident as it happened when both of them were fighting for the position.
Sergio Perez hopes to hold up against the Ferraris.
Ferrari have developed themselves enough to now match pace with Red Bull, and this was one of the major reason why Leclerc snatched the victory from Verstappen in Austria. Anyways, Sergio believes the team would be able to make up for it. “Ferrari was strong but it was close between us. Hopefully, we can vw in contention this weekend,” he stated.
Red Bull have been dominating after battling with Ferrari and sometimes Mercedes as well. They currently lead the championship with 359 points. Perez, who was one of the main contenders for the World Championship, has now moved down to 3rd, with 151 points; 29 behind Leclerc.
