‘I refuse to congratulate Verstappen and Red Bull’: Robert Doornbos still believes in the possibility of Ferrari winning the 2022 championship
Robert Doornbos
Robert Doornbos, a former Formula 1 driver, who drove for Red Bull Racing in 2006, refused to celebrate the victory for Red Bull and Max Verstappen as a champion in 2022 already. Red Bull and Max are leading the championship ahead of Ferrari, but Robert still counts the reliability issues RB18 has.
Red Bull after the first three races suffered 3 DNF separating them from Ferrari with a bunch of points to score. Winning 6 out of the following 6 races, Red Bull has managed to turn the tables and is now leading the constructor championship with 76 points and Max winning 6 out of the 7 races has finished 46 points ahead of his teammate on P2.
Though dominating the first half of the season, Robert refuses to conclude the Championship already, “It is only over when you mathematically cannot be overtaken”, Doornbos said to Motorsport.
Robert Doornbos reveals problems with both Red Bull and Ferrari
Red Bull and Ferrari both have suffered severely due to the reliability issues the teams have, both of the table toppers are also topping the table with most DNF. Red Bull suffering 3 DNF in the first three and 1 in Canada, got themselves still on the line.
Ferrari, on the other hand, has been the team to suffer the most with their issues, lost a lot of points in bulk and is now almost out of the title contention because of the careless attitude. Ferrari has only won 2 of the races and none in the last 6, more to it, the reliability caused them the most. The F1-75 has now been out of the race three times in the last three races, that too from almost winning the race two times.
Charles Leclerc, a probable title contender, has now lost 3 of the last 3 races from the leading stages and has to start from P19 in the last one due to the engine penalty. Silverstone could hold a surprise package for both the teams.
