Fernando Alonso recently announced his move to the Aston Martin F1 team for the 2023 season and former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya believes that the move could prove beneficial for parties, however, he is certain about it.

Montoya is of the opinion that despite the Silverstone-based team’s struggles this season, they can put up a fight next year and sees it as a terrific opportunity for the former two-time World Champion.

Moreover, it is the common belief that Fernando was attracted to the Aston Martin team by the vision they shared with him. The Lawerence Stroll-owned team wants to get to the front end of the grid as soon as possible and this relentless hunger is what caught the attention of the 41-year-old.

Aston Martin just a few years ago was competing at the front end of the grid and was pegged down this year because of the new regulations, it caught many teams off guard, and Aston Martin is one of those teams.

However, despite the lack of promise, Montoya believes Fernando’s decision has the potential of paying dividends in the long run. While talking about the same, Montoya said, “It is hard, but remember, with F1, if they run bad this year, it doesn’t mean they are going to run bad the next two years.

Montoya has stressed the multi-year deal as Alpine was only willing to offer the Spaniard a one-year contract and this did not sit well with him and he decided to jump base for next year.

Montoya further added, “You know, Mercedes always had good engines, and Aston has had decent cars. If they can put it all together, you know, they have the means and the budget, and everything to get it done.

After looking at what Montoya has said about the English team, it seems that they have everything at their disposal in order to get back to the front end, and now with Fernando Alonso joining them for the 2023 season, things can only improve for the team.
