“I think there is every likelihood of them winning a Grand Prix,” David Coulthard backs Mercedes to score a race win in 2022

Mercedes, this year, has fallen well off the pace of the front-running Ferrari and Red Bull team and, after 13 rounds, is out of the fight for the 2022 F1 World Championship.
However, despite this year’s setbacks, former Red Bull driver David Coulthard believes that Mercedes can score at least a race win in the remaining nine races of the season.
The Silver Arrows have struggled immensely this year with one problem or the other and the recurring issues just haven’t allowed them to get a stable base to challenge the top two teams.
However, as the first leg of the season progressed, the Brackley-based team has shown consistent signs of improvement and as a marker of it, George Russell scored the first pole position of his career in Hungary and Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, has managed to score five consecutive podium finishes.
The team is moving in the right direction and after looking at their exploits before the start of the summer break, Coulthard ardently feels that Mercedes has got a race win somewhere in its locker.

David Coulthard believes Mercedes has to show everything that they have got in the second leg of the season
Mercedes has scored quite a few podiums with its drivers during 2022 but the first win of the season has still eluded them. The team just hasn’t been able to keep up with the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull and this has cost them dearly throughout the whole season.
Coulthard while talking about Mercedes said, “I think there’s every likelihood of them [Mercedes] winning a Grand Prix, Let’s remind ourselves in previous years, people like Alpine and McLaren have won in seasons that, you know they’ve not been even close prior to those one-off races. So, I do think it’s feasible.”
The former Red Bull driver has pointed to last year’s one-off races where Alpine and McLaren were somehow able to pull off the unthinkable in lesser machinery and sees no reason why it can’t happen for Mercedes.
Considering the level of unpredictability in F1, what Coulthard has said holds true and in the upcoming nine races, situations can arise where the Silver Arrows might be able to take advantage and secure a race win that they desperately want.
