“I told him to go out together,” Sergio Perez reflects on the podium entrance with Max Verstappen
Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen
Sergio Perez is absolutely loving life at Red Bull right now. The Mexican joined the Milton Keynes outfit last year and has been in the form of his life ever since. Sergio was brought in by the team to be the wingman for Max Verstappen but the driver has done more than that on more than one occasions. After a slow start to the season, the duo seems to be coming in their element as Red Bull slowly starts to climb up the standings.
Both the drivers already have two podiums to the their names with the last one coming at the Imola GP. Red Bull secured a 1-2 finish in Ferrari’s home race and saw some serious signs of improvement after what has been a challenging start to the season. The team seemed to have gotten it right with the upgrades and also fixed their reliability issues which has been a cause of concern in the first three races of the season.
The mood changed drastically in the Red Bull camp after Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez’s incredible performance. We all know the part that Sergio Perez played in Max Verstappen’s title winning race after he held up Lewis Hamilton to give his team mate a fighting chance when he looked dead and buried. It seems like the bond has gotten stronger even more after the kind of success the team enjoyed last year.
Sergio Perez talks about his incredible podium entry with his team mate, Max Verstappen
We saw a glimpse of the camaraderie shared between the pair at the podium in Imola after an incredible drive by both of them. Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen entered together for the ceremony. Sergio Perez after the podium said, “We were about to go out on the podium and I told him to go out together, he said yes.”
“We discussed it with Alex (F1 podium organiser) and we went out. It was a good message for the whole team,” as reported by gpblog.
Sergio Perez is the dream team mate for any of the F1 drivers. But we also need to understand that he wishes to be the world champion too and this can change the equation pretty quickly.
