“I want to be back battling at the top,” Sergio Perez wishes to bounce back in Barcelona after a tough Miami GP

In the inaugural Miami Grand Prix, Red Bull driver Sergio Perez started beside his teammate Max Verstappen after qualifying 4th the day before. After the race start, Max Verstappen was able to gain a spot after an amazing overtake on Carlos Sainz, and on the 9th lap, he took the lead of the race after overtaking the race leader Charles Leclerc.

This also led to Verstappen winning the race. The reason why Max was easily able to perform both the overtakes and then defend the position is because the Red Bull cars are immensely faster than any other car on straights, and Miami has two major straights and three DRS zones, that made it a good track for both the Red Bull cars.

However, things didn’t quite work out for Sergio, as he finished the race 4th, precisely where he started. This happened because Sergio Perez’s car had a power issue mid-race, after having a very close battle with Carlos Sainz where he almost made it to the podium place. When asked by Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull during the race by David Croft, he said that Sergio had some problem with a “mode” in his car, which made him lose quite a lot of power.

Once he started losing power, his team thought that it was happening because he lost the slipstream from Sainz, but soon enough, Checo was losing 3 to 4 seconds per straight, it was then when his power unit error was realized.

It was obvious that Sergio Perez was frustrated that he couldn’t even overtake Carlos Sainz after the safety car following Lando’s incident on the track for the podium places. He stated that it is frustrating that these things keep happening. But on the other hand, he said that he was glad about his performance.

“But on the other hand, I mean, on a bad day I managed to finish fourth, which is good,” stated the Mexican stated.

Sergio managed to keep a steady P4 for the rest of the race, and crossed the line so, behind the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. His teammate, Max Verstappen won the race after an immense battle with Charles Leclerc after the safety car.

Checo stands third in the championship with 66 points, and Red Bull stand 2nd in the constructors’ with 151 points.
