Sebastian Vettel has not looked his usual self throughout the course of the season and this is something which is becoming a growing concern for him. There have been glimpses of magic but nothing even close to the high bar he has set in the past with both Ferrari and Red Bull. To be brutally fair to him, most of the blame needs to be pinned on Aston Martin, who have done a bad job with the development of the car.

The German joined the team after seeing how well the then Racing Point was performing. After Sergio Perez left for his old team, Red Bull, the stage was set for Vettel to take this relatively new team to new heights. But, the gamble quite clearly hasn’t paid off as the team from Silverstone finds itself 9in the constructor’s championship with just 18 points ahead of Williams.

The charismatic German has scored 15 out of the 18 points, with his best result coming in Baku as he finished P6 on one of his favorite circuits. Apart from that, it has been a season to forget for Vettel who has confirmed that he is not happy with this lackluster machinery. With his contract running out soon, he has made it clear that he would only stay at Aston Martin if he sees some sort of improvement and progression in the second half of the season.

But, with the top teams having already locked in their drivers, Sebastian Vettel will not have a lot of teams to go and join for the next season. With the contract negotiations just round, the German has opened up on his ambitions for the next few seasons in Formula 1.

Talking about his future plans, the Aston Martin driver said, “I want to fight not only for points but for wins. Otherwise, the fun is lost.”

“In the next few weeks, together with my family, I will have to be clear about how realistic my goals are and how much energy I still feel in me to grow with the team.”

It becomes imperative for Aston Martin that they bring in some major updates in the next few races and improve significantly if they want to keep hold of their marquee driver.
