“If someone wants to join, it has to be really significant,” Stefano Domenicali dents Andretti’s hopes of getting into F1

Stefano Domenicali
F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, has always been on the look out for opportunities to make the sport more popular. We all are aware of the fact that F1 went through a period of slump which saw a decreasing trend in the popularity of the sport. That was due to two major reason, among other. Firstly, the lack of the overtaking maneuvers which severely impacted the entertainment quotient and secondly, the era of utter dominance for Mercedes.
These were certain areas which needed to be addressed and that’s exactly what was done. F1 has always been perceived as a rich man’s sport and it became imperative to tweak that perception. With the Netflix series “Drive to Survive“, that was definitely care of. But now it was equally important for the organization to make sure that provide the newly acquired fanbase with some pulsating action on the track.
Max Verstappen and Red Bull did F1 a huge favor as they brought an end to dominance of winning the driver’s championship. This was seen as a door of opportunity, one which FIA took full advantage of by a massive overhaul in regulations and cars, allowing them to follow each other more closely. FIA had also decided to expand its reach by adding more venues to the calendar which inevitably meant the introduction of more teams.

Stefano Domenicali recent comments provide a setback to Andretti Global in their quest to enter F1

But, sadly for Andretti Global, recent comments by F1 CEO, Stefano Domenicali, has put a huge dent in their aspiration into the sport. He said, “They [the teams] are very solid [financially, ed]. That is something that is a great reward for them.”
“They have invested in us and therefore we think the community should be respected.”
“If someone wants to join, it has to be really significant,” as reported by gpblog.
This has to be a major setback for Andretti Global as they looked to enter the global sport and disrupt it by the huge pockets that they claim to have. It’ll be interesting to see how this develops.
