“In Baku to stay in the fight,” Toto Wolff not ready to give up on the world title just yet

“In Baku to stay in the fight,” Toto Wolff not ready to give up on the world title just yet

Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton

Toto Wolff, CEO of the Mercedes Formula 1 team, has been struggling at the start of the season to get the new W13 on the top where its sisters used to be last 8 years. But that hasn’t been the case due to a ground effect known as porpoising that doesn’t allow the Mercedes drivers to take the car to its full potential. Scenes looked sorted out when the Silver arrows entered the arena in Barcelona. They looked quite stable with the bouncing and were the fattest on the straights. But things again took a quick turn when the ups and done for the car returned to the slow streets of Monaco.

Toto Wolff stills feel optimistic about their return to Baku and target the fight for the top still on the list. One thing, the team needs to do is to cultivate all the possibilities into opportunities just like George Russell does every weekend. “We arrive in Baku refreshed after a hectic Monegasque weekend, full of red flags, delays and variable weather. We got some important points, but it was possible to do more over the weekend and we need to make the most of every opportunity to stay in the fight. As in Barcelona, the low-speed corners of Monaco represented a difficult challenge for the W13, but they also provided us with valuable lessons,” said the Boss.

Red Bull and Mercedes fighting for the lead in Baku 2021

Baku has always been a fun track to watch for with many podiums and new performances every season, it could be fun to watch what the streets provide us with this season. With Red Bull and Ferrari on the way to bringing their best performance in Baku, Mercedes aren’t counting themselves out of the lot just yet. With the lessons and mistakes learned in Spain and Monaco, Baku could turn out to be a strong race for the 8-time champion team.

“With another street circuit in Baku, the team has worked hard to analyze these two races and identify areas we can innovate to push forward in the standings. Finally, Baku is often the scene of fun and crazy races (2021 is a clear example, with Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton at zero points, ed.) And the track offers good opportunities for overtaking and fighting. Let’s see if this weekend will live up to its reputation,” said Toto Wolff reported by Formulapassion.

Mercedes are still in the third spot of the table with 134 points in the champion with Geroge only 41 points behind the leader and Hamilton 75 points behind the top, it will be difficult to say what holds the future for the Mercedes team.
