Reigning Formula One World Champion Max Verstappen was on his direction to a predominant win in Baku in 2021, but a drubbing derailed his plans. The Dutchman has stated that he has “unfinished business” in Azerbaijan. Retired Formula One driver Christian Klien believes he has a reasonable chance of passing because Red Bull Racing has the greatest shot.
According to Klien, Verstappen was “clearly the fastest man” in Baku last season and is eager to exact revenge himself. Verstappen’s teammate Mexican driver Sergio Perez nabbed the loss for his teammate and finished the race, but the Austrian believes Verstappen ought to have conquered.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has something to help compensate for after two disheartening races, but Red Bull, according to Klien, is in a stronger place for the next two races. He emphasises that while the Monegasque had a faster speed in Spain and Monaco, Red Bull had an advantage in terms of tactic and tyre deterioration. “Now come Baku and Montreal, two high-speed tracks, where I rather see Red Bull leading,” said Klien.
Red Bull at an advantage? : Christian Klien
The Monaco Grand Prix at Circuit de Monaco turned out better for Perez than Verstappen, who struggled all weekend to strike the right balance. Klien, on the other hand, does not presume Perez can cause real problems for his teammate in the title championship.
“Max was maybe just missing that little bit of confidence in the car. This is a set-up thing that will be solved with the development of the car. In pure speed he has the Mexican under control,” concluded the former F1 driver.
Despite the fact that Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has stated that there will be no first and second drivers, Klien believes that the margin will instinctually return to normal. Despite the contract renewal, he believes Perez, 32, is approaching the end of his F1 career.
