Charles Leclerc has had his share of mistakes despite his impressive run this season. Those are the mistakes which separate him from championship leader, Max Verstappen. It can be definitely said that Ferrari have had the pace on certain circuits but a strategy error or a mistake by the driver have not allowed them to convert that pace into substantial results.

French GP was another race which raised the expectations in the Tifosi but a culmination of an error by Charles Leclerc and a horrible pit stop costed Ferrari a handful of points. The Monegasque driver looked in complete control after weathering an early storm by championship rival, Max Verstappen. It seemed like a matter of time when Max would overtake Charles but the latter held his nerve and fended it off.

Tyre degradation was obviously a huge factor in the heat and all teams were well aware of that. Ferrari opted for a riskier one stop race for Charles Leclerc and decided to keep him on for more laps while Max pitted. This meant it was hammer time for Charles before the pit stop arrived for him and as he was doing that, he lost the rear and crashed into the barriers.

This could be be big dent in his championship hopes but Piero Ferrari has pinned his hopes on the Monegasque driver. Comparing him to greats, he said, “Even champions make mistakes. And that’s not a cliché. Schumi, who made the history of our brand, was sometimes not perfect. It also happened with Lauda, Prost, Gilles Villeneuve.

“As a company we are proud of what our racing department has achieved so far. We came out of a difficult period.

Now we have a car that can drive on any circuit. Of course there are things to improve and details to refine,” reported gpblog.

The resurgence of Ferrari this year has been impressive to say the least but Red Bull has proved to be too consistent, which has highlighted the need for Ferrari to fine tune certain aspects.
