“It is really annoying” : Carlos Sainz on the F1-75’s porpoising issues

In the first two free practise sessions in Azerbaijan, Carlos Sainz finished in the top five twice. At the same time, he trailed Charles Leclerc’s effectiveness both twice, indicating that he still has work to do.

The Spaniard has tried his hardest all season to contend with his teammate, but for the time being, the Monegasque is far ahead  On Friday, Sainz could be content with a fourth and fifth final time, despite the fact that Leclerc was the quickest in the final hour.

“It’s been an interesting Friday, as always here in Baku. There were quite a few challenges during FP1 and I was struggling a bit too much with the bottoming and the bouncing, which made the session quite uncomfortable,” said the Spaniard.

The second free practice session went considerably better, according to the Spaniard. “Overall, it was a smooth second session despite not being able to close an entire flying lap on the Softs due to yellow flags. We look forward to making another step forward tomorrow and having a clean qualifying,” added Sainz.

“It looks super close. We are faster in the corners, and they are slightly faster on the straights. It will be a tough fight. Overall, we went in the right direction, and we were more competitive in FP2 than in FP1,” explained Sainz regarding their performance in comparison to chief competitor Red Bull’s.

The issue of porpoising has reappeared to cause problems for the F1-75 as Sainz had to undergo a lot of bouncing during the practice sessions. “We are looking into it. I’m struggling a lot, and it hasn’t been there in the past few races. It looks particularly bad on my side of the garage. It is really annoying, and it’s affecting my confidence under braking, so I hope we can fix it,” concluded Sainz.
