“It just blows my mind,” Lando Norris handpicks his stand out moment from the first half of the season
Lando Norris' podium in Imola
Lando Norris has enjoyed yet another impressive season with McLaren. What makes this season extra special for him is the fact that Daniel Ricciardo has failed to gain any sort of momentum on the same machinery. It could have been a horrible season for Andreas Seidl and Zak Brown, had Lando Norris not performing at the level that he is performing right now.
McLaren are current 5th in the constructor’s championship behind Alpine with 95 points. Out of these 95 points, 76 points are against Lando Norris’ name, which shows us McLaren’s dependency on the young Brit. The thing that stands out for him is the level of consistency that he has shown despite being so young. There have been times Lando has shown incredible pace despite McLaren not giving him the fastest of cars.
Red Bull and Ferrari have been utterly dominant this season and everyone expects them to occupy the first two rows week in and week out. It was more so in the first few race weekends. Recently, when asked about the highlight of his season, Lando Norris said that he was definitely surprised by snatching a podium in Imola. Yes, the Brit had some luck with Charles Leclerc crashing into the barriers but nobody can say that he didn’t deserve it.
Lando Norris picks Imola as the best result of the season so far
Lando Norris looked like a pleased figure talking about that podium in Imola. He said, “For myself and my driving and so on, I’m happy. Some good highlights, I don’t know how I got a podium in Imola, it just blows my mind.”
“With the car that we have that’s quite some achievement so still makes me smile now, but then there are still a lot of positives.”
“It’s just now we have a lot of work to do. The gap to the guys ahead is still massive and I guess yes, it’s close on Saturday, but everyone is closer on Saturday, even last place is a lot closer. It’s just the spread on Sunday is bigger than what it has been in past, and we’ve got to work on that.”
There is a reason why Zak Brown was so keen on retaining Lando Norris and it can be said that he has earned every penny. But, he would have to be in the same form if McLaren wants to compete with Alpine.
