Mercedes had yet another qualifying to forget. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell could do nothing more than they did in the qualifying at the Imola. It’s been an abysmal start to the season for the Mercedes’ drivers. The eight time constructor’s champion can’t seem to get it right as they struggle for raw pace, especially on the straights. To make matters worse, porpoising is giving them a lot of headache too.

We expected Mercedes to build on what was a decent weekend for the British manufactures at the Australian GP. But it seems like one step forwards and a couple of steps back for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell after a disappoint end to qualifying for them. George Russell and Lewis Hamilton couldn’t make it out of Q2 at the Imola GP qualifying. This should be unacceptable by the standards set by Mercedes.

It wasn’t like that they had a one off. Lewis Hamilton was saved by the skin of his teeth as he was barely able to made it to Q2. The seven time world champion finished P15 in Q1 and P13 in Q2. The situation was equally disappoint when it comes to George Russell. But this isn’t down to the drivers as Mercedes has not been able to give the duo a competitive car to deal with the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull.

Former World champon and ex Mercedes driver, Nico Rosberg, slammed Mercedes for their development of the W-13 and at same time sympathized with both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. He said, “It just doesn’t seem to work at all, that car. You see the jumping with George Russell, that seriously gives you back and headaches just watching that. It is unbelievable.”

“You have no confidence at all to attack the car when it is bouncing like that. Really fighting with that incredibly.”

They can’t get to seem to understand what to do to sort it out aerodynamically. Incredible to see them back there,” as reported by gpfans.

Mercedes needs to find the answers sooner rather than later if they want to get anywhere with the likes of Ferrari and Red Bull or this could go as one of the worst season in the illustrious history of the team.
