“It makes me feel too sick,” Lando Norris not a fan of taking fluids on board while racing
Lando Norris
Lando Norris the McLaren Formula One driver has recently given his thoughts on the idea of using drink bottles during races and feels that it is something that makes him feel sick.
The French Grand Prix was one of the most physically demanding races of the 2022 F1 season where temperatures were hovering over the 30-degree mark throughout the race.
Under such circumstances, most drivers prefer to take as much water on board as possible but it is not the case when it comes to the young Lando Norris.
Moreover, the Brit has said that drinking while racing makes him nauseous during race events. “I still don’t use a water bottle inside, it makes me feel too sick, so I can’t use it. I just can’t do too many fluids when I drive, I just barf it back up. So that’s why I avoid it.”
Lando Norris on the tough track conditions in France
The 22-year-old has revealed that the track conditions in France were not only tough on the drivers but also on the cars that they were driving. Norris gave a special mention to Turn 11 where Charles Leclerc crashed. The Brit felt the wind was a bit unpredictable on that part of the circuit.
“Tricky, a little bit windy.”
“Especially the long right where Charles crashed, a gust of wind which seemed to just throw the car out sometimes. And just hot temperatures. So managing the tires was very difficult.”
“Especially knowing if you want to do a one-stop to get right to the end with a good pace, you needed to protect a lot in the beginning, to give yourself the confidence you’re going to make it to the end. So tough.”
Lando Norris for his tireless work at Paul Ricard was able to come back to the garage with a P7 finish after starting the race from P5. He was able to land his MCL36 between the two Mercedes during Qualifying.
George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished on the podium in France and after the race, while admitting he did the best with the package, there was a sense of frustration as he was also eyeing a higher finish than his starting position.
“I think we achieved everything we should have done, could have done,” said Norris. “Frustrating because I guess after yesterday our hopes were just pushed up a little bit.”
“I think it was more because I just did a very, very good lap, to be in the middle of Mercedes, and they showed they can almost race for a win.”
After France, McLaren has fallen to fifth in the Constructors Championship behind Alpine, and during this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, the papaya-colored team would be looking to regain the fourth spot and go into the summer break in a better state of mind.
Can McLaren take the fourth position in the Constructors back from Alpine in Budapest?
