“It still is a very long season,” Sergio Perez identifies the next four race weekends critical for his championship hopes

Sergio Perez
While Sergio Perez has struggled in the last few weekends, Max Verstappen has stretched his lead at the top of the championship to 70 points over him and 63 points over Charles Leclerc. The Mexican’s problems started from the Canadian GP where he suffered the second DNF of the season. Before that, he was there and there about in terms of the championship but lost a lot of ground that weekend.
The bigger concern for Red Bull has been the performances from the Mexican powerhouse. We saw a response from Perez at the British GP after he came from the back of the grid to finish P2. It’s evident that bar has been very high this season and any mistake from any driver can eventually prove to be very costly. That’s something Sergio Perez needs to understand.
Now, it’s been two races in which Perez has lost a bag full of points because of which he has a mountain to climb. We heard Charles Leclerc after the crash at the French GP acknowledge the fact that if he continues to make the kind of mistakes he’s committing, he doesn’t deserve to be the world champion and that’s the same rule which applies to any other driver, including Sergio Perez.

The Mexican has acknowledged the crucial junction he finds himself right now. Sergio said, “It still is a very long season. I [don’t come] from such a good race but still finished fourth, good points. What has been killing me lately has been the DNFs; it has been very costly in the championship.”
“We’re going to be trying a few things this weekend, so hopefully [we can] get on top of everything. I’ve been more at home with the car, let’s put it that way, than in recent weekends, but there is nothing that really stands out.”
“I think we should be able to sort it out quickly and get back on the form we’ve been in the whole season, basically. I think these next four races, four weekends are very crucial in the championship.”
This is definitely a crunch for all championship hopeful and it’s about time that Sergio Perez pulls up his socks if he really wants to challenge Max Verstappen for the world title.
