“It was on the limit,” Joylon Palmer on the fence about Max Verstappen’s defence against Mick Schumacher

Max Verstappen has earned his reputation as an overtly aggressive driver. We have heard a lot of drivers talk about treating the Dutchman differently than other and giving him more space to avoid contact. But, Max has been unfazed by the criticism and has always for a gap whenever he has seen one. He has had his share of penalties and has come under the spotlight yet again.

British GP looked like a race which Max Verstappen was expected to win irrespective of the conditions. But, it just didn’t go his way as he ran over some debris inflicting irreparable damage to the floor, which caused a massive loss of downforce. This, in turn, meant that the reigning world champion could carry on but there was a significant loss of performance for the rest of the race.

The defending world champion was eventually stuck in a tussle with Mick Schumacher in the dying laps of the race. Max was not in any mood to give up that seventh place and there’s been a debate circling around how he defended against the German. In one of the clips, it seems like Max has left Mick with absolutely no space, which has eventually helped him to get that breathing space to keep that place.

Max Verstappen was “on the limit’ in his defence against Mick Schumacher, according to Joylon Palmer

Joylon Palmer has recently opined on the controversy around what is acceptable when it comes to wheel to wheel driving. Talking about the incident, he said, “I think the defence with Mick was on the limit really. And I don’t really know where the rules exactly are on forcing drivers off track.”

“We saw it with Checo (Perez) a little bit, it’s the grey area there. But nonetheless, important points for Max in the Championship chase.”

“Really unlucky basically for Max. He takes the race lead, twice, and then the first time he has to go back to second and then the second time, he had the issue which he thought was a puncture initially and he came into the pits, it was some bodywork damage which was just a long-lasting horrible race for him.”

Max Verstappen and Mick Schumacher did provide a lot of entertaining with their fight at the end of the race as they drove like true F1 drivers. Now it’s up to the FIA to decide on this issue.
