“It was quite a good battle,” Max Verstappen cherishes his duel with Mick Schumacher at Silverstone

Max Verstappen and Mick Schumacher
Max Verstappen has been a part of many a battles but it’s difficult to remember him fighting tooth and nail for seventh place. But, it was that kind of a day for him when nothing went his way. A weekend where the Dutchman had the pace to win, he could only managed P7. It all started in the qualifying where he looked like the fastest man on track but Carlos Sainz pipped him for pole after an unfortunate yellow flag during his last flying lap.
Unfazed after qualifying, Max got his elbows out to take the lead of the race but a red flag caused the grid to be reverted. When we thought this was supposed to the last of the unfortunate incidents, Max Verstappen’s RB-18 ran over some debris on Lap 11, causing damage to the floor work which in turn caused a loss of performance for the course of the Grand Prix.
But, it was important for him to score as many points but, realistically, he could only finish as high as P7, but he was made to work hard by Mick Schumacher for that position. The German looking for his first ever points finished carried out a late charge on Max. It didn’t prove to be enough after Max Verstappen’s courageous and debatable defence but it definitely provided for a spectacle for fans across the globe.

“Of course, I was not enjoying where I was, but you can also appreciate the fight you’re having with someone else. I think it was actually quite a good battle.”
Describing his battle, he said, “I was like, ‘Well, he has to now back off, otherwise we’re both out. Luckily, he’s smart enough to [do that].”
