“It was very similar,” Lewis Hamilton draws parallel with the 2009 season as he looks to repeat the heroics of Hungary

We have seen a lot of comebacks but if Lewis Hamilton finds a way to win a race this season, with all the difficulties Mercedes have had, it’ll be nothing short of a miracle. The seven time world champion made his debut in 2007 and took just more than a year to become a F1 world champion. This was something unheard of but that announced to the world that a very special talent has entered the fray.

Unfortunately, 2009 was nothing of the year that preceded. The Brit had been there and there about in 2007 and 2008. Lewis finished 2nd in 2007, a point behind Kimi Raikonnen, and went on to win the championship next year around. This meant that there was a lot of expectations for next season but McLaren just couldn’t live up to the high standards.

It’s been same sort of an year this time around too. Mercedes had a pretty successful season despite coming up short in the drivers’ championship. It was anticipated that they’ll come back with a bang but their porpoising issues haven’t allowed them to do so. Despite the start, the team from Germany have made progress in the last few races as they chase that win.

Lewis Hamilton feels he can win in Hungary just like how he did in 2009

Lewis Hamilton feels that he can make a comeback just like in 2009 and win in Hungary. He said, “I remember 2009 very well and many elements of that year. This year, at the start of the season, it was very, very similar: in February we were very confident and convinced that we had a lot of performance in the car, but of course it started to bounce back and he let us down.

“But I would say that whole experience is… it’s impressive to see a group of people never give up, everything that you see in these teams. I think we haven’t taken the big leap in before as was the case in 2009 to win in Budapest, but who knows?”

“We won’t give up, we will keep giving our all. It will be hot there. Maybe our car will be good there, maybe we will be closer to these guys. I hope so in all case, because I love this.”

It’ll be foolish to put it beyond Lewis Hamilton to pull a rabbit out of his hat and win in Hungary. Of course, it’ll be difficult but it seems more realistic now.
