“It will get more tense,” Charles Leclerc expects the rivalry with Max Verstappen to heat up during the business end of the season

Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen

Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen have had a fair amount of fights throughout the season with a few won by the Ferrari driver and the rest by the Red Bull driver. But we haven’t seen any of the fights, get on line with either of them trying to push each other out of passing contention. But Charles Leclerc unfolds his relationship with Max as the points gap between them decreases with upcoming races. Leclerc when asked about it in France, agrees to more intensive fights at the season end after the drivers take their gloves off for the championship.

Last season we had a fight for the 2021 World championship, a fight for ages, with drivers from two generations fighting for the ultimate title. Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton gave their all in the battle between them with many intensified fights. Fights where both the drivers didn’t want to give up and one of them had to suffer ultimately. With the aggression Max brings into his driving, his rival tends to suffer a lot of damage racing against him. But this season with Charles things hadn’t ended up with a crash or damage after several wheel-to-wheel fights they already had. As the season progresses Charles hopes to see fights that might lead to some unfortunate ending but as of now he has really enjoyed the battle and hopes it to continue.

“I don‘t know. I am sure that at one point during the season it will get more tense, for sure. Especially if we keep catching points and get closer and closer. It will be normal. In the end, if we are fighting for the world championship, it gets tense, “ said Charles.

Charles is well aware of Verstappen’s driving style, with the championship going ahead he understands if the fight gets to the edge. This isn’t the first time he is fighting Max for wins, he had gone through karting as rivals and ended up in Formula 1 as rivals as well.

“But until now, I really enjoy the battles. Because it is not like we have been easy or nice to each other! We’ve also been racing to the limit but in a fair way. I hope this can continue, ” said Charles Leclerc.

After a win in Austria Charles managed to lessen the gap to 38 points from the lead. Fans expect things to get spicy if Charles manages a couple of wins before the Summer break and is also quite possible considering the best result from Ferrari’s reliability.
