“It won’t be easy but it’s the same for everybody,” Guenther Steiner opines on the sprint race format
Haas' Team Principal Guenther Steiner with Kevin Magnussen
The fourth round of the 2022 Formula 1 championship is set to take place at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Italy. The season so far has been a highly exciting one, with the championship seeing a shuffle in the grid order each weekend. One of the teams that have surprised the paddock and have come out on top in this era of new rules in the sport, is the Haas F1 team. The only American team on the grid, HAAS sacrificed their 2021 season for development of their 2022 car. This decision by the Haas team has been a fruitful one so far and they have scored 12 points in 3 races.
Walking into the Imola Grand Prix. The weekend consists of a sprint race weekend. This translates into loss of a practice session for each team on the grid. With the 2022 season having new rules and regulations, the teams have limited amount of information about the new factors such as the 18 inch tyres. This further acts as a drawback for the teams to set up their respective cars for the Grand Prix to maximise performance and come out on top when the chequered flag drops.
Everyone is in the same boat says Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner
Ahead of the weekend, Guenther Steiner gave his views about the sprint race weekend. The Italian said “For sure it will be challenging because we’ve only got one free practice session to find a good set-up. With the difficulties of these cars and the inexperience we have got with it, it won’t be easy but it’s the same for everybody“.
The Haas boss is convinced that the sprint race weekends are favourable for Formula 1 and is looking forward to the inaugural one of the season. They have kicked off their campaign well with their driver Kevin Magnussen turning heads in the paddock with P5 finish in season opener. The young German, Mick Schumacher yet to score his first points has shown promising signs and the Haas team are looking sharp in the midfield battle.
