“It would have been easy to run away from it,” Mike Krack on the “difficult task” at Aston Martin
Aston Martin
Mike Krack the Aston Martin team Principal recently during an interview has admitted that it would have been easier for anyone to move away from the challenge of leading a troubled team.
Aston Martin is the only team not to have scored a point so far in 2022, and is currently last in the Constructors Championship, the team has been handicapped by a struggle to keep the “proposing” issue under check.
Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel were involved in four on-track incidents during the recently concluded Australian GP and the damage that was caused to the AMR22 has further derailed the plans of the Aston Martin team.
Mike Krack has said that he understood even before taking on the job that it would be difficult to lead the team as it is expanding its headcount and is preparing to move into a new factory.
“I had a lot of questions when I was approached for this position, and when I got the answers for these questions, I knew that this was going to be a big challenge,” he said.
“It would have been easy to run away from it. So I was never going to expect that it was easy.”
“I have to say the first three races were not easy, really. I mean, at the end of the day, F1 is F1, it’s hard. You have to have a quick car, you have to make no mistakes, you have to have good drivers.”
“So the whole thing is not together at the moment. We have to really work hard to get there. There’s no magic at the end of the day.”
Mike Krack has admitted to learning new things with the team
Mike Krack has admitted that he is still learning his way around the team. He has spent a relatively limited time at the Silverstone base since taking over in March due to the busy schedule at the start of the season.
“You clearly need to identify who works on which process, who is doing what,” he said. “Obviously when you are away racing you have a little bit less of an insight than you would have if you have, for example, a three-month period at the factory to start with.”
“I think it’s six weeks or seven weeks by now. But it’s up to me to take the necessary steps to talk to the most people, try to identify where we are, what we have to improve, and move on. Again, I’m not the kind of guy that looks for excuses here.”
Mike Krack is committed to Aston Martin and is trying his best to do everything that is in his powers. He recently acknowledged the arrival of new technical director Dan Fallows who has now completed his Red Bull gardening leave after being hired last June and is seen as a boost for the team.
“We have another new recruit with Dan, you are probably aware, so we’ll have to sit together and identify clearly how we develop the car, how we develop the performance, and how do we develop the structure of the team?”
“To identify a weakness, I think it’s clearly the performance of the car, and how we have to improve that is something that we will need to look at in the next weeks again.”
Mike Krack is well aware that they have not been able to get any solid performance from their cars so far during the 2022 season and has emphasized that the team has got a lot to work on and improve as much as possible during this year.
