“It’s 100% my fault” : Romain Grosjean takes full responsibility for Mercedes test delay
Romain Grosjean
Since last year, Romain Grosjean has been required to take a test with Brackley-based racing team Mercedes. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, had guaranteed him one more Formula 1 race after his career was prematurely ended following his accident in Bahrain.
The ten-time podium finisher had been scheduled to compete at the French Grand Prix in 2021, but the test could not be completed in time. The IndyCar driver acknowledges that he is the one who hasn’t taken action to arrange a date yet but refuses to place the responsibility on Mercedes.
Romain Grosjean explains why the testing for Mercedes was delayed
“Not yet and it’s 100% my fault. I have not been able to give Mercedes the dates of my return to Europe. If you have followed me on social media, you know that I have moved to the United States, to Miami. I moved in December 2021, I have been very busy. I had to drive the Mercedes at the French Grand Prix and after that, do a test day at Le Castellet, on the Paul Ricard,” said Grosjean.
“Because of the Covid, the date of the French Grand Prix was moved and I had a race the same weekend. We wanted to do the test day but there was a quarantine between France and the United Kingdom , so for Mercedes it was getting very complicated,” added the former Haas driver.
But the French driver wants to be reassuring that the test will take place. He went on to mention how they had a date in September for Silverstone but the track could not be booked. He also added how he has been in contact with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff and that he reassured the driver that the testing will take place.
