All the dreams in the Spanish Grand Prix shattered for Ferrari after Charles Leclerc, who was leading the race with a +30 second lead, had a power issue and failed to finish the race. He didn’t score any points because of the same. Max Verstappen, who is his main competitor moved ahead in the championship, taking the top place away from Leclerc.

Mattia Binotto, team principal of Ferrari has admitted that the team has been facing power reliability issues. The Haas of Mick Schumacher and Alfa Romeo of Valtteri Bottas faced issues in their MGU-K units; both of the teams run on Ferrari engines, and Bottas also had a similar power issue in Barcelona.

Binotto did not specifically talk about the issue, but he did state that the reliability remains an issue for all the teams, while pointing out that Red Bull had a lot of costly issues into this season.

He stated that they have found the root cause and fixed it for the next races, and also said that it is the only information the team would be able to share.

Although the Ferrari team principal said that they had found the root of the cause and solved it, the team principal did not specifically reveal what the issue was, all he said was that it has been solved for the next races, and that it is difficult to fix such issues in a short period of time.

“So it’s a challenge, as with performance reliability, [that] is certainly a big challenge, and reliability when you’ve got concerns, it’s never obvious to fix them in a short time,” Autosport quotes Binotto.

“So yes, it is a concern, but it doesn’t means that we are too concerned, I hope Christian [Horner] is more than myself!

“But let’s do our best job from now to the end of the season. And hopefully everything will be smooth and clear,” he concluded.

Ferrari currently stand second in the constructor’s, right behind Red Bull, and Max Verstappen leads the driver’s championship with 110 points.
