In the all-new Formula 1 2022 season, there have been a paradigm shift in the rules and regulations that previously existed during the turbo-hybrid era of F1 till 2021. With the replacey of former F1 Race Director Michael Masi, the FIA, who govern the processes of Formula 1, have also seen some structural changes. Now, Niels Wittich of World Endurance Championship and Eduardo Freitas of DTM have taken up the responsibility to act as Race Directors for this sport.

As newly appointed executives, Wittich and Frietas have given special focus on driver safety and the issues of placing a budget cap on all the teams to ensure a close competition between teams which are equal in terms of car technology and other research.

Previously, it was seen that the F1 teams with a large budget and more manpower l, developed ultra-modern car parts with their R&D teams, while the smaller teams had no means to fund all of that. So, the major teams beat the minor ones easily, and it caused a wide gap between the F1 teams. But with the budget cap in place, even the teams with higher budgets can only spend a specified amount on their car.

A few days ago, Christian Horner, Team Principal of Red Bull and the longest acting Team Principal amongst all teams, spoke up to oppose the rule of this budget cap. He said it put an end to innovation in F1 as his team could not fund the research despite having the means to do so.

Now, Ferrari Chief Mattia Binotto has also come forward to side with Christian regarding this issue. He said, “I agree with Christian that we need to raise the budget cap. Inflation at 6% is very high. I think all the top teams will hit the spending cap very soon. It would be wrong for a championship to be decided by it.
