Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz suffered another early upset to his 2022 campaign after crashing out of the Emilia Romagna GP‘s Qualifying session early. Until his crash he was looking fast enough to claim the pole position but then tragedy struck, He brought out the Red Flags in Q2 after losing control over the kerbs and spinning into the barriers right after embarking on his first flying lap of the session.
Meanwhile his teammate Charles Leclerc qualified for P2. The Monagesque came strikingly close to beating Red Bull’s Max Verstappen as the Dutchman stayed ahead by 0.8 seconds. This will be Max’s first pole position of the season ahead of the first sprint race of the 2022 campaign. Former Mclaren teammate Lando Norris claimed P3.
Carlos Sainz came extremely close to claiming a pole position in the previous race in Australia as well. The Spaniard crashed out after less than two laps of the race. But he believes this time it’s his errors that cost him the chance to claim pole position.

Carlos Sainz lost control of his Ferrari F1-75 as he went over the kerbs in the 2nd session. The Spaniard crashed the barrier at Rivazza and came to a halt after getting stuck in the gravel. Sainz, who until then was showing good control over his car believes it’s his error that caused such a costly mistake for the team.
Sainz reflected on his poor show ahead of the tifosi and said, “It’s a shame. I felt comfortable. I don’t understand because I wasn’t going at full speed. I have no choice but to apologise. I will try to come back as much as possible in the sprint race and start further ahead.”
Sainz just signed a contract extension that will keep him at Ferrari until the 2024 season. He stands 3rd in the Drivers standings, 38 points behind teammate and Championship leader Charles Leclerc. Sainz will start P10.
