Yuki Tsunoda, the AlphaTauri driver has talked about his team’s 2022 F1 season and indicated that it has been an extremely difficult year.

The AlphaTauri Team fell backward massively this year and while the team ended up in P9 in the Constructors Championship, Tsunoda feels there were positives to take from the campaign.

During the Abu Dhabi GP, the Japanese driver had a frustrating outing and ended up in P11, that race summed up the Red Bull sister team’s season completely, as they struggled for pace throughout the campaign.

While stressing on his Abu Dhabi GP exploits, Tsunoda added, “The last six or seven laps, the tire was good, then suddenly the tire dropped and I couldn’t keep up the pace from the fronts.”

I felt there was a good chance to score points, but I couldn’t keep up the pace. It’s a shame, but at the same time I did my best.”

Pierre Gasly has joined the Alpine F1 Team ahead of the 2023 season of the sport and Yuki Tsunoda has recently taken the time to thank the Frenchman.

It’s been a hard year as a team, we couldn’t achieve even P8 in the championship. On the positive side, I learned lots of things from it – especially from Pierre, who’s leaving.”

It was a pleasure to work with him and I appreciate the things he achieved [for] the team and also [gave] to me.

The Japanese driver is grateful for everything that Pierre Gasly did for him, but with the winter break in progress, Tsunoda is focusing on next year’s challenge.

While stressing about it, he added, “Hopefully the car is good. Of course, for my side, I need a lot of improvement, still.”

At least I have a clear target to progress for the next year, so that’s good. I will just try to achieve that and definitely, we’ll be back strong in the next year.”

Yuki Tsunoda is determined to put a strong foot forward for next year but considering the team’s extremely disappointing 2022 showing, would they really be able to move in the right direction?
