“It’s been quite a big compromise,” Valtteri Bottas expects Ferrari’s update to address the problems with the clutch paddle arrangement

Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas has admitted to the fact that it’s been difficult for him to adjust to the new clutch paddle arrangement ever since his move from Mercedes to Alfa Romeo. The Finn also said that it’s been a problem because of the oscillations on the low trip tracks, where drivers have to go quite deep with the clutch. This has started to become a cause of concern.

Another problem that he revealed was the fact that he has had some major problems when it comes to getting quickly off the blocks at the start of the race. We have seen this time and again that both the Alfa Romeo cars losing positions at the start of the race and then have to play catch up. That is also down to the problems with the clutch.

All the Ferrari run cars have had the same issue. Even Carlos Sainz admitted to the fact that he has also been facing somewhat a similar issue. The Spaniard said that it’s not like Ferrari is bringing an update per se but just a technical tweak, which would be remove the issue.

Valtteri Bottas, on talking about the issue, said that there is a dire need to get rid of the oscillations on the clutch. He said, “We have a new clutch here, finally! We will try it in practice for the first time, but it’s something that Ferrari has been working on for quite some time.”

“And now finally, we have some new bits for the clutch that should prevent the oscillations we’re having.”

“It’s been quite a big compromise. We’ve tended to lose positions on average in the start, and that’s not great, because the midfield is so tight that once you drop behind somebody then you’re stuck for 20 laps, it doesn’t make your life any easier. So yeah, hopefully now it’s OK.”

The Ferrari run cars have had a lot of issues when it comes to reliability and if they don’t do much about that Ferrari and Alfa Romeo might have to pay the price in the constructor’s championship.
