“It’s not worth it anymore,” Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen uninterested in winning the ‘Triple Crown of Motorsport’

With Sergio Perez’s victory in Sunday’s Monaco Grand Prix, both drivers at Red Bull have now won at the event. Max Verstappen won it last year after Charles Leclerc was unable to start the race due to a driveshaft issue. This year, the cars at the front were all well and fine, and Perez won it, with Verstappen joining him on the podium, along with Carlos Sainz in second place, replicating his result from last year’s event. A miserable and furious Charles Leclerc followed them in fourth place.
With this, they have both won in the crown jewel of the Formula 1, with the victory being even more special for Perez as he had not started in top 6 at Monaco ever before. There is another type of ‘crown’ in Motorsport, that being the Triple Crown of Motorsport, which comprises winning at three events: The Monaco Grand Prix, The Indy500, and The 24 Hours of Le Mans.
However, with both having completed one part of the puzzle so to say, they have both expressed that they are uninterested in attaining the ‘Triple Crown’. Max Verstappen in particular made it clear that IndyCar is certainly not for him.
Max Verstappen: IndyCar “Not worth it anymore.’
During the press conference following the conclusion of the race on Sunday, the Red Bull drivers were asked if they are interested in completing the ‘Triple’ Crown.
Max Verstappen was the one who answered first, saying that he did not in fact mind Le Mans but IndyCar was not for him.
“I never had the desire to get the triple crown. At least, not the IndyCar race. I do appreciate what they do. It’s insane, those drivers… I have a lot of respect for what they do, but for me now that I’ve been in F1 for so long, I don’t need to risk my life or get an injury to my legs or anything. It’s not worth it anymore.”
As stated, he does not mind a ‘double crown’ and expressed his fondness for endurance races and interest in IndyCar. “Maybe Le Mans. I like endurance races, so I’ll probably do a few, hopefully soon.”
However, his teammate and the current holder of the crown jewel of Formula 1, Sergio Perez was not interested in either of the other races, instead preferring to spend time with his family after his career is done.
