“I’ve become a bit immune to it,” Daniel Ricciardo amid growing speculations around his future in F1

Daniel Ricciardo
After the first two practice sessions at Baku, Daniel Ricciardo in his McLaren isn’t looking too good. He ended up getting a P18 in FP1 and P14 in FP2. The Australian is now worried about his future in the team, as his teammate, Lando Norris managed to have much better finishes. Ever since Ricciardo joined the team, he has not been able to match their expectations; except for Monza where he finished and was followed up by Norris to make it a 1 – 2 finish for McLaren. But since then, he has only been struggling to maintain position. Zak Brown, CEO of the team, stated that they were not impressed with Ricciardo.

Although the Australian has a contract until the end of 2023, he is still worried about his future, in case the teams lets him go early. “We spoke, but it wasn’t really necessary,” he stated, as GPBlog quoted, then responded to the criticism. “I’ve become a bit immune to it. Sometimes it is taken out of context. I know how things are between us and what I have with this team.”
Baku a challenge for the team

McLaren have had a particularly bitter start to the season, where they were spotted at the back of the grid many times. Even where Lando Norris managed to perform, Ricciardo only had a considerate performance in Australia, where he finished P6, right behind Lando. Now as we head forward into the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, it seems that it is going to be a challenge for the team, as Ricciardo already had a bad finish in FP1 and FP2; at the same time, Lando Norris struggled to finish any better than P11, after running a considerate amount of laps on the track.
The team would have to work a lot harder during and before FP3 to have a good qualifying session. Although they stand 4th in the constructor’s championship behind Mercedes, they have a huge gap to cover; they have 59 points in their bag, and when compared to Mercedes ahead of them, they have 134, so it is indeed, a major gap to cover for both the Briton and the Australian.
