Alex Albon has been in sensational form during the 2023 Formula 1 season. He has single-handedly led the Williams team from the front, and ahead of the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, its Team Principal, James Vowels, has showered massive praise on him and said he should target podiums going forward.
Alex Albon has been one of the standout performers of the ongoing campaign and has caught the attention of several prominent F1 teams. He has come a long way in the sport, from being kicked out of Red Bull to leading Williams F1 charge from the front, he has so far had quite a ride so far.
James Vowels is extremely pleased with how well Albon has settled into the Williams set up, and while praising him recently, he said, as reported by Racingnews.360, “He should be aiming for winning races and being on the podium. He has the potential and he frankly deserves to be in that position. But more so that’s a journey he’s happy to do with Williams, whilst we’re on the pathway towards it at the same time.”
“That’s the perfect summary of that situation. He’s a racing driver coming to the peak of his career, he should absolutely be focused on doing the best he can with his God-given ability, while it still exists. His lifecycle [as a driver], I mean if you look at [42-year-old] Fernando [Alonso] it’s [15] years that he has in front of him. He has a good amount of time in front of him now,” he added.

Alex Albon has propped Williams forward in the 2023 Constructors standings
While James Vowels has left no stone unturned in praising Alex Albon for the brilliant job he has done since joining Williams, the latter has also played a significant role in propelling Williams forward in the 2023 Constructors Championship. As things stand, the Grove-based team has a firm grip over seventh place.
Williams has so far managed 21 points in the season, and Albon has scored all of these points. Logan Sargeant, on the other hand, is yet to get on top of the FW45 F1 car. Moreover, he could come under threat of losing his seat for next year if he is not able to match the performances of his in-form teammate.
The ongoing campaign is 14 rounds down and has only eight races remaining on the calendar. While James Vowels wishes to see podiums from Alex Albon, it will not be easy, considering the problems of the FW45. The car is only a lethal weapon when it comes to straight-line speed.
