Charles Leclerc is considered one of the best talents currently in Formula 1. The Monegasque driver has been racing for Scuderia Ferrari since 2019. The 25-year-old fought for the world title in 2022 but failed to match Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Now, Leclerc’s manager and former FIA President Jean Todt‘s son Nicolas has claimed that the Ferrari driver has the potential to be an F1 world champion.
Nicolas Todt met Charles Leclerc through late F1 driver Jules Bianchi. Bianchi was the godfather of the 25-year-old and was very close to his family. The former Marussia driver introduced Todt to Leclerc when the Monegasque struggled to fund his karting campaign. The 45-year-old said, “I was with Jules at GP2 at the time and he told me that Charles was karting… he had no budget to move on. He said I should help him, it was worth it, and I saw we’ll meet him.”
Todt mentioned that Leclerc was unaware of his potential during those days. The 45-year-old claimed to know that the Monegasque driver showed skills that of a driver who can win the F1 world title. As such, Nicolas Todt became ready to finance Charles Leclerc’s season. The Frenchman continued, as reported by Soymotor, “I knew Charles was a great kart pilot, but he did not know that he had the potential to become a Formula 1 runner-up and that he has everything it takes to be world champion there.”

Charles Leclerc has never disappointed Nicolas Todt
The Frenchman first funded just another year of karting for Charles Leclerc. Although, the 45-year-old promised the Monegasque driver that if he performed well, Nicolas Todt would do everything to help Leclerc make it to Formula 1. Todt claimed that ever since, the Ferrari driver has defied expectations and proved his brilliance on track.
Nicolas Todt explained, “I gave him my word that he was going to help him as much as he can and he has never disappointed me, quite the contrary.” The two have formed a strong bond over the years. Leclerc has established himself as a top driver in Formula 1 and even received the longest contract extension in the history of Ferrari in 2019.
Thus, Charles Leclerc’s manager, Nicolas Todt, has faith in the 25-year-old from the beginning of their journey together. The 45-year-old made it possible for the Monegasque driver to make it to Formula 1. At the same time, Leclerc has continued to prove his worth with his outstanding drivers at the pinnacle of motorsport. Certainly, Todt’s decision to support the Ferrari driver was the right one.
