Former F1 world champion Jenson Button joined Williams Racing as a senior advisor in 2021. He is on a multi-year deal, and his duties include working with the Williams Academy drivers on track and also at the team’s headquarters. Recently the 43-year-old was asked about the Williams rookie Logan Sargeant.
Button confessed that he liked the American “a lot,” and he praised him for his “good” character. Sargeant is the only American F1 driver on the current grid. His lifelong dream was to become a Formula 1 driver, and he has successfully achieved that.
While speaking about Logan Sargeant, Jenson Button stated, “I like him a lot. He’s in a difficult situation, but he’s a tough guy. He’s a guy who listens, he wants to learn. He has a nice character. And he’s fast.” Despite Sargeant’s poor start to the 2023 season, Button claims he is tough and fast. It is safe to say that the former F1 driver wants to give the American rookie more time to settle in and show his true potential.

Quick look at Logan Sargeant’s first five races

Logan Sargeant did not score points on his F1 debut at the Bahrain GP. But it was a solid drive, and he finished 12th. Both team and the driver were happy with their pace that weekend. In the second round of Formula 1, Sargeant took the checkered flag16th, though it was not where he wanted to finish.
The most chaotic Australian GP was the third round of the season. The race was full of safety cars and red flags, and Sargeant made his contribution. The American ran into the AlphaTauri of Nyck de Vries, and as a result, both drivers had to retire their cars. However, he apologized to De Vries, and all is well between the two.
Sargeant crashed out at the Azerbaijan Sprint Shootout, and it caused him to withdraw from the sprint race. The team worked flat-out on the car but could not complete the repair on time. The 22-year-old finished the race 16th.
Sargeant’s home debut was disastrous, as he was the last driver to take the chequered flag. The rookie started from P20 and tried to overtake Lance Stroll, but it resulted in front-wing damage. Sargeant was quick to take the blame for it. Despite his ill luck, the Formula 2 champion will bounce back and hope to deliver good results. After all, he is considered one of the 20 best drivers in the world.
