Kevin Magnussen sees porpoising issues in Montreal: “The track is very bumpy”
Kevin Magnussen
Kevin Magnussen has had a disappointing couple of weekends. After a strong start to the year, where he scored points in three of the first four races of the season, he has not scored any in the last four. Perhaps even more concerningly, he has retired in three of those races and even the other was marked by an incident.
In Miami, he collided with Lance Stroll late during the race, causing him to retire. In Spain, while trying to overtake Lewis Hamilton during the first lap, he touched tires which gave him a puncture and sent him into the grave and down to last place. Then in Miami, he retired at with a water pressure problem, almost the same time as teammate Mick Schumacher. And in Azerbaijan, it was a power unit issue.
Suffice to say, the last few race weekends have not been short of frustration for Kevin Magnussen, and half of them have come under circumstances in which he had no control over what was going to happen at all. His teammate Mick Schumacher has also struggled, and is still on the search for his first point. Despite all of this, Magnussen remains optimistic for the coming weekend in Montreal.

Kevin Magnussen: “Montreal is a cool place”
Kevin Magnussen is looking forward to racing in Montreal once again. The past two races were canceled due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and he would not have been able to attend the last one either, because he was not in Formula 1 at that moment. The Dane has also never scored points in Canada. In a Q&A posted on Haas’ official website, Magnussen said:
“The goal is to score points, that’s for sure. I think we have the car to do that and I’m looking forward to going there.”
Talking about the characteristics of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, Magnussen said that Montreal is a ‘cool’ place and that he very much likes the circuit.
“It’s pretty unique, it’s kind of like a street circuit but then also a hybrid – I really like it. It’s very bumpy so it’s going to be harsh in these new cars as they’re very stiff. it’s going to be a challenge I’m sure, but a good one.”
This may not be good news for Mercedes, and especially Lewis Hamilton, who had suffered from back pain due to heavy bouncing throughout the whole weekend in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is also a bumpy track. While Mercedes have promised that they will make sure that the drivers don’t go through something like that again, they might be up for a small challenge against the bumpy track surface in Montreal.
