“It’s not fair,” HEARTBROKEN Lance Stroll demands changes at ‘dangerous’ Spa-Francorchamps after the tragic death of Dilano Van’t Hoff

Dilano Van’t Hoff was a Dutch racing driver competing in the Formula Regional European Championship. The 18-year-old looked set for a promising career in junior categories with the ultimate goal of making it to Formula 1 one day. However, Van’t Hoff passed away after a tragic accident in Spa-Francorchamps during a championship race. A devastated Lance Stroll called for changes after the death of the Dutch driver.
The Canadian driver expressed his emotions after hearing news of this calamity. Stroll reminded the fans that this is the second death at the Belgian circuit within a span of four years, with Anthoine Hubert passing away in 2019. The 24-year-old said, “It breaks my heart what happened. I think Spa and Eau Rouge needs some looking into because we’ve lost 2 drivers now within a span of 4 years.”
The Aston Martin driver mentioned how several always point out the dangerous nature of ‘Eau Rouge’ at Spa-Francorchamps. Following Hubert’s death, organizers made significant changes to the track, such as opening up the run-off area. However, Stroll feels more changes need to be made to ensure the safety of the drivers. Stroll stated, “It’s a very dangerous corner, and we say that every year. It’s not fair what happened today.”

The 24-year-old Lance Stroll demanded changes to the iconic turn in an effort to prevent such calamities in the future. The Canadian driver even stated how a disaster like Dilano Van’t Hoff‘s death was inevitable with the track’s current state. Stroll mentioned, “I think everytime we go through there its an accident waiting to happen, and today we lost a young kid. It’s not fair.”
Certainly, Van’t Hoff’s death has shocked the racing world. Safety has always been paramount in racing, especially in recent years. Yet, motorsport continues to be a dangerous sport, even for junior categories.
Thus, Lance Stroll has highlighted that if changes were made to the Belgian circuit, Dilano Van’t Hoff might not have passed away in this heartbreaking incident. The Canadian driver emphasized the need for changes to the corner to prevent such a catastrophe in the future. However, it remains to be seen how the FIA plans to tackle the concerns.
