The 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix has a fascinating starting grid after the completion of the qualifying event. While the event saw several outliers making it into the top 10, the two McLarens were the biggest shock of the session. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri got knocked out in Q1.

Ahead of the ongoing Las Vegas event, the McLaren F1 team was not oozing a lot of confidence despite their solid Sao Paulo outing. But despite that, Piastri was able to end the FP3 session in the top three. This gave the Papaya team some confidence heading into the quali session, but calamity struck as both the McLaren drivers got knocked out.

Lando Norris was asked to shed light on what went wrong during Q1, and while talking about the same, he said;

I would say not a surprise because it is very close. When you are not comfortable one or two tenths is close. Been struggling with this car on the circuit. I don't think we did anything wrong. Should we have put on a new soft? Potentially. It happens, but I look forward to tomorrow

Looking at the comments of the prolific Brit, it is quite clear that he is not at all satisfied with how the qualifying event panned out for him and his team. He has, moreover, admitted to his struggles at the super-fast Las Vegas street circuit.

Lando Norris will be starting the Las Vegas GP from P16

While Lando Norris is starting the Las Vegas GP from the south end of the grid, he should stay in a positive mind frame, keeping in view the race pace of the MCL60. The car has proved extremely mighty since the start of the second leg of the 2023 F1 season and should help Norris be competitive during the 50-lap dash.

Moreover, if the 24-year-old can get the better of 2-3 cars going into Turn 1, it will bode well for him for the remainder of the Las Vegas Grand Prix. With an aggressive race strategy, Norris would have every chance of coming from Las Vegas with a decent points haul to his name.

Lando Norris has all the skills in his arsenal to make his way up on the grid during the race, and from his and McLaren’s point of view, it will all be about nailing everything to perfection. Several eyes will be on Norris’s MCL60 during the highly anticipated Las Vegas Grand Prix.
