Lando Norris, the McLaren F1 driver, has asked his team to stay optimistic after a tough start to the 2023 F1 season in Bahrain. The Brit feels there is no reason for his team to be downbeat only after the first race. He is keeping a positive mindset and has asked for the same from his whole McLaren team.
Lando Norris has been with the team for many years now and understands how important it is for him and the team to stay in a good mindset. Moreover, he is the senior driver on the team this year and sees it as his duty to keep the morale high as much as possible. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri both retired with mechanical during the Bahrain GP.
While talking about the importance of his role in the team this year, he added, “It’s very important. It’s part of my job, really. I guess more so now than ever. But there’s no reason why they should be downbeat, the main thing is we should have scored points, that was our objective today, with a car we know is not that competitive. The team know that, and if we fix the issue, we should be fine.”
The 23-year-old has admitted that the MCL60 is not as competitive as everyone on the team expected. However, despite this fact, Norris is not willing to throw the towel in just after the first race of the season and wants his team to also not lose hope and keep putting in the work from their end.
Lando Norris hopes to score points in Saudi Arabia
The second race of the current campaign is slated to take place on the 17th of March at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit. Norris believes, that if McLaren does everything right, there would be every chance of scoring points, just like the team did last year. The Brit ended his 2022 outing in a respectable P6.
While talking about the Saudi Arabian GP, Norris added, “We scored points in the past in Jeddah. There’s no reason why we shouldn’t have scored points today, and that hopefully continues into the next race. We’re optimistic, we still believe we can score points with the car we have, which makes us even more optimistic for the later part of the season. And we’ll keep trying.”
Looking at how enthusiastically Norris has spoken ahead of the Saudi Arabian GP, what do you think the papaya-colored team would be able to do under the lights at one of the fastest circuits on this year’s F1 calendar? Would McLaren be able to score points, and if yes, how many points would the two cars be able to amass?
This year’s midfield battle is extremely tight, and if the first race of the season is anything to go by, the Saudi Arabian GP has got every chance of witnessing an extremely tight battle between the midfield teams.
