McLaren saw a sudden transformation of their season after their upgrades in Austria. Struggling to even qualify for Q3, they became podium contenders in a span of just two races. Despite this solid recovery, McLaren driver Lando Norris has said that he is not happy with the upgraded MCL60.
Norris has revealed that his new car does not suit his driving style. He explained the difficulties he is facing on corners and how the car is only effective on straights. He said that the vehicle can only be driven in one way, irrespective of the conditions on the track, and he is still struggling to adapt to that.
“I don’t like to drive the car the way that I have to drive it now. I feel like it isn’t to my strengths at all. I want to be able to carry minimum speed and [drive in a] ‘U’ [when negotiating] a corner, and the last thing I can do in the world now is ‘U’ a corner. I have to ‘V’ the corner more than ever,” Norris was quoted by racingnews365.
Talking about the MCL60’s strength on straights, Norris revealed that while it still does not have the best pace, its braking is excellent. He said that this gives them a lot of advantages in wet conditions where braking is a key factor, like Monaco.
“Basically, the car only likes to go in a straight line. It doesn’t even go very quick in a straight line either, but we’re very good in straight-line braking…I wouldn’t say we’re quick in the wet as a general note, but we’re quicker in the wet when braking is a big key, like in Monaco,” he added.

Lando Norris discloses his newfound desire to join the MotoGP
McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were recently spotted in the British Grand Prix in MotoGP, trying out different bikes and speaking to the riders. After witnessing the significant differences between the two sports, Lando Norris has expressed his desire to race in the MotoGP one day.
Seeing the vast difference in the safety of the drivers in the two sports, Norris said that while he would definitely like to be on two wheels instead of four, he would be the laughing stock of current MotoGP riders. Norris appreciated the courage MotoGP riders showed as he called the sport ‘more bonkers than F1’.
“It’s crazy, man, these guys are bonkers. Definitely more bonkers than F1. I’m wrapped up in a nice little car – and they’re just out there. They would probably laugh I’ve got a seatbelt on. Thing is, every corner you could get hit. It’s insane, it gets quicker every time I come back,” Norris told Quadrant.
