Lando Norris has been partnered up by Australian driver, Oscar Piastri at McLaren for 2023. Oscar will finally make his highly-anticipated debut in F1 with the Woking-based team, replacing Daniel Ricciardo. Subsequently, Lando gave some wise words for his new teammate’s rookie season at the pinnacle of motorsport. Additionally, the British driver is convinced that Piastri will adapt to the pressure of Formula 1.

Norris started out by mentioning the high expectations laid down on F1 drivers. The 23-year-old said, “I am in Formula One because people expect me to be one of the best drivers in the world.” Lando Norris further explained the mindset of the drivers as they try to prove their worth in the sport. He said, “Going out and just executing it. So that’s the thing that you think of. But there is no reason why you shouldn’t be able to execute it.”

Lando Norris opened up about the low point during the inception of his F1 career. The British driver stated, “And that was the thing I struggled a little bit with in the beginning.” Although Norris even expressed the decent results, he achieved at McLaren in his debut season. The 23-year-old continued, “At times, I did an extremely good job in my first year. And our performance maybe some expectations.”

The British driver opened up about the lost morale after some underwhelming results. Lando said, when it’s just harder to achieve, or you struggle more with the car and things like that, then you lose that bit of confidence.” Additionally, Lando Norris spoke about his struggle in adapting to Formula 1. He continued, “Everyone comes in at a different point in their career. But it’s just there’s a lot of things to learn, those are just the things I struggled with a bit more.”

However, Norris also mentioned that many drivers could deal with the pressure from the beginning. Lando stated, “Maybe some drivers don’t struggle with it at all. I think that’s probably the most common thing is you’re in Formula One for a reason.” Consequently, Lando Norris was confident that Oscar Piastri would adapt to the sport considering his immense talent. He concluded, “can you live up to your expectation, which is a lot of expectation, obviously. So yeah, but I’m sure he’ll be fine.”

Thus, it seems that Lando Norris is optimistic about Oscar Piastri’s prospects in Formula 1. Piastri will have the task of matching the 23-year-old in his debut season. A challenge that 8-time Grand Prix winner Daniel Ricciardo failed to tackle. However, Oscar Piastri proved his worth in Formula 2 in 2021, and fans hope that the Australian driver can provide a tough battle to Norris this season.
