The 2023 Las Vegas GP was one of the premier events across all sports last year. The hype around it had started building from the very start of the season but with the event done and dusted, the business owners in Las Vegas have claimed that they lost millions of dollars of revenue because of it.
When it was officially announced that Las Vegas would stage a grand prix, the hierarchy at F1 promised that they would not cause any problems for the local businesses. However, as per the locals, they lost out on a truckload of money because of the mega-event.

They are extremely disappointed and have even gone on to ask the Clark County government, the LVCVA public tourism agency, and F1 to compensate for their losses. Randy Markin, an owner of Battista’s restaurant and general manager of Stage Door Casino added, as reported by lvsportsbiz;
We as a community got bamboozled, we got fooled. This has not ever happened before. It just steamrolled out of control.
Looking at the immensely strong reaction, it seems that quite a few business owners around the Las Vegas Strip incurred heavy losses because of the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix. Moreover, it has been indicated that the management of the event was not properly done by the decision-makers.
The on-track action at the Las Vegas GP was breathtaking
While the businesses around the Las Vegas strip have raised their voice against the management of the Las Vegas GP, the on-track action during the three-day race weekend was simply sensational. From Carlos Sainz’s manhole controversy to the wheel-to-wheel action during the Grand Prix, the event was a huge success.

Moreover, it was one of those rare events, where a total of three drivers were in the fight for the grand prix win. While Max Verstappen ultimately secured the victory, Sergio Perez and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc gave him a really good fight during the dying stages of the event.

The Las Vegas GP has received mixed opinions from people so far, but after the inaugural event, F1 must have learned a lot and during this year’s race, the management would most probably do a better job of handling things and making sure that the businesses around the strip are not affected.
