Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton has had a very pretty shocking start to the 2024 Formula 1 season. The Mercedes driver has been out-qualified by fellow Briton and teammate George Russell throughout all the opening three rounds of the season.
After the Mercedes number 44’s shock Q2 exit in Australia, on one of his best tracks, Lewis Hamilton seemed to agree about the fact that George Russell has had the edge over him while driving Mercedes 2024 season challenger, W15.
George is doing a better job with this car, he's beaten me in three consecutive rankings and looks like he's doing better than me. I'm trying to keep my head out of the water and keep going, realizing it could be a lot worse than it is.Lewis Hamilton said after the qualifying sessions in Australia.
The seven-time World Champion looks to be very uncomfortable with the W15’s constant issues. He also spoke about the W15’s lack of pace and inconsistencies throughout the sessions. With the race being tomorrow, it will definitely be interesting to see Hamilton’s progress from P11.
Lewis Hamilton laments W15’s inconsistent qualifying performance
The Mercedes W15 seems to be a very unstable car throughout the sessions, with drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell constantly speaking about the car’s lack of performance between sessions. Furthermore, the car seems to be struggling especially with the low fuel qualifying runs. After Lewis Hamilton’s massively upsetting exit in Q2 he spoke about the W15’s qualifying troubles. He spoke about his and the team’s lack of understanding about the W15’s inconsistent qualifying form.

For some reason, when we go into qualifying, it's very hard for us to even pass Q1. I've been almost out again and it's something we're missing. I've qualified ahead of a Williams; we shouldn't be in that position. I don't see positives for tomorrow, but it'll be a new day. I want to work as hard as I can to go forward and enjoy the race.Lewis Hamilton said.
With teammate George Russell also only scraping into Q3 and qualifying P7 it seems that the car is very unpredictable in nature, especially in comparison to the previous FP session. The Silver Arrows will definitely need to work on fixing these issues with the W15 in order to maximize its performance.
