Lewis Hamilton has failed to win a race since 2021 with Mercedes failing to give him a car capable of fighting for the title. Now, Hamilton has admitted that he does not have confidence in the W14 after a difficult day at the start of the Japanese GP weekend.
The British driver reckoned that it was a hard day at the office. He went as far as claiming that he failed to have faith in his car while driving it in Free Practice on Friday. Lewis Hamilton even admitted that Mercedes are struggling to find the perfect set-up. The Silver Arrows are still not satisfied with the balance of the car this weekend.
Hamilton said, as reported by SoyMotor, “It has not been an easy day for us. I have lacked confidence with the car and that has contributed to our enough We have a hard time finding the right balance and we have not fully understood how we are going after.” The 7-time champion pointed out that overheating has been a major issue for the team this weekend. This in turn has hampered the car’s pace.

Lewis Hamilton believes Mercedes can improve at the Japanese GP
Despite previously claiming that Mercedes will not win in Japan, Lewis Hamilton believes that there is still enough room for improvement. The seven-time champion recalled that the Silver Arrows have bounced back from similar issues on Friday this year as well. As such, Hamilton hoped that this weekend would be the same as he tries to get a decent result alongside teammate George Russell.
Lewis Hamilton stated, “I think we can improve. We have had similar Fridays this season and in the end, we have become stronger on Saturday. We will see if the same thing happens tomorrow, we are going to give everything.” Certainly, the 38-year-old would be looking to improve on his Friday performance after failing to break into the Top 10 during Free Practice.
The Silver Arrows had shown a promising pace in Singapore last weekend. Unfortunately, it seems that the Mercedes W14 is not the best-suited car for Suzuka. However, Lewis Hamilton will be aiming to salvage as many points as possible in the race on Sunday. As such, it remains to be seen how things pan out for the Brackley-based team.
