Lewis Hamilton brands Sebastian Vettel as the ‘most outspoken’ driver in F1 history

Sebastian Vettel retired from Formula One after the 2022 season after driving for Aston Martin. The four-time world champion is known for his non-F1 activities and his F1 exploits. Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, who has shared an intense rivalry on track and a solid friendship off of it, believes the former Red Bull driver is the most outspoken poet ever in the sports’ history.

After retiring from Formula One last year, Vettel dedicated his time to his family and being an active voice in the fight against climate Change. In recent years, he actively spoke about the threats of global warming to ecosystems and wildlife. Vettel has also advocated for the importance of human rights during his time at F1. One of the most recent incidents happened during the 2021 Hungarian GP. He wore an LGBT shirt in protest of the anti-LGBT policies of the state. The stewards reprimanded Vettel.

Lewis Hamilton has also advocated human rights and has actively spoken against discrimination based on gender and ethnicity. Whiel talknig about his former rivla Mercedes star acknowledged that, in the sport’s history, he couldn’t think of any other driver who was outspoken and compassionate about issues beyond the racing world.

F1 drivers showed their support for “buzzing corner” at the Suzuka Circuit

Sebastian Vettel initiated the “Buzzing Corner” campaign to raise awareness about species’ decline. He launched this campaign on Thursday before the Japanese GP. This initiative involves creating ‘huts’ for bees and other wildlife inside Turn 2, with the added colors of black and yellow kerbs. Each of the ten teams had its own hut, and the drivers came together to support this initiative and decorated their huts with their respective teams.

Acknowledging this initiative, Vettel emphasized that the decline in biodiversity and the ongoing loss of species point to a mass extinction crisis. He expressed that the purpose of this project is to show that every individual can contribute towards making a positive change.

The bee is a great ambassador and the project is called Buzzing Corner, Racing for Biodiversity. We are providing a small habitat here, but it is really about preservation and making sure that we are not continuing to lose biodiversity,” said Sebastian Vettel.
