Lewis Hamilton the seven-time recent world champion recently opened up about the $430 million move to Ferrari. Hamilton has created F1 history with Mercedes, by winning six championships and will end his journey with the team this season. He will now have eyes to win a championship in Ferrari as it is his childhood dream. Similar to Michael Schumacher, he wants the Ferrari story to be a part of his legacy.
According to Hamilton, one of the main reasons he decided to join Ferrari was because of Frederic Vasseur, the team principal of the Italian team. He worked as Hamilton’s team boss in his Junior year. The Mercedes driver kept the Ferrari deal a secret and didn’t even tell his parents the news. They only came to know a day before the eventual announcement.
Lewis Hamilton the Mercedes driver, remarked that the opportunity to go to Ferrari just popped up. At that moment the British driver decided to move to the Italian squad. The 39-year-old remarked that it was a gut feeling. So, Hamilton decided to take the opportunity.
[The decision] happened very fast. The opportunity just popped up and I was like ‘Ok I’ve got to think for a second’ and I didn’t have a lot of time to think, I just had to go with my gut feeling and I decided to take the opportunity.Hamilton told The Indipendent.
Martin Brundle Analyzes the impact of Lewis Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari
Hamilton’s aspirations to win an eighth championship would continue throughout his time with Ferrari. Resulting in an almost fantastical scenario in which Hamilton accomplishes his objective. It brings Ferrari back to the top of the F1 standings, where they haven’t been since winning the Constructors’ title in 2008.
Hamilton’s tenure at Ferrari won’t necessarily be brief and sweet, according to Brundle. By the time Hamilton takes the track for Ferrari, he will be forty years old, but 42-year-old two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso is proving that age is just a number and that motivation is what keeps drivers at the top of their game.
Martin Brundle sees Hamilton competing for a maximum of four years in Ferrari. “Well only a few drivers can do it because these drivers have been racing since they were four, five, or six,” Brundle said in response to a question about how confident he is that Hamilton can still perform and maintain his reflexes at forty. But it will depend upon Hamilton’s performance for the rest of his career.
