Lewis Hamilton crashes into the barriers bringing out the red flag in Q3

Lewis Hamilton after the crash
The Austrian Grand Prix weekend started off pretty well for Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton as it seemed after they had almost solved their porpoising issues. The cars went relatively fast during and after FP1. It is a sprint weekend so there would be no FP3, so the teams had been pushing their cars since the first lap, and it seemed as if the old times were back when Hamilton was setting faster laps, and George Russell, too.
Most of the cars were on their soft compound during FP1, but at the same time, Russell was on the medium tyres, however that did not stop him from finishing a fantastic P3.
The qualifying session, too, looked in the hands of both the Mercedes as they went extremely fast during Q1 and Q2. But tragedy came upon the 7-time World Champion just after a few minutes into Q3. George Russell set a relatively faster lap, but at the same time, there was a yellow flag in sector 3, which soon turned into a red flag as the cameras pointed on the crashed car of Lewis Hamilton. Qualifying ended for the Briton right there.

Lewis Hamilton is reported to be okay

The crash seemed horrendous, as he was taking one of the fast corners of the track, and he spun from his car’s rear, and hit the barrier with a great impact. There was a moment of silence, but after that, Hamilton was heard on the radio saying he was sorry and okay.
Soon after the crash, all the Red Bull and Dutch fans in the audience started cheering, reflecting the toxicity they have against Lewis after a controversial 2021 season. Although the rivalry is understandable, people on Twitter pointed out that cheering for any driver’s crash is one of the worst thing a person can do. Lewis Hamilton would now start the sprint race tomorrow from P10.
