Lewis Hamilton, the former 7-time F1 World Champion, has recently talked about the problems he has been facing in the cockpit of the Mercedes’s W14. The team has been focussing its attention on improving the output level of the car, and Hamilton has admitted that there is nothing that can be done regarding the cockpit problems he has been facing.
Lewis Hamilton, while dwelling on his problems said, “There’s nothing you can do about it [cockpit position], that’s just the way it is. The only things you can do is ultimately try to slow the rate of rotation, stabilise the rear end so that’s something you try and do on mechanical balance, but you’re just limited with the tools you have. It’s the same as last year.”
“But the new suspension was a real positive for me, so it gave me a lot more confidence last week so I’m hoping that translates to here.” While the 38-year-old is a bit dejected with the state of things in the cockpit of the W14, he has made it known that things have been a bit better since the new suspension that was brought for the Spanish GP.
Moreover, he has indicated that the same would happen at the upcoming Canadian GP. The last race proved very fruitful for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell with a P2 and P3 finish, and the Toto Wolff-led team would be hoping for much of the same at the Gilles-Villeneuve Formula 1 Circuit.
Lewis Hamilton’s take on helping Mercedes’ crew with valuable input
While Lewis Hamilton is pleased with the direction in which the team is heading, he has revealed that he and George Russell have been doing their bit in helping the Mercedes crew by providing them with their input regarding the performance of the W14. “Well I mean it’s the input that we’ve been having as a team, both George and I, over the past year.”
“It’s those constant conversations where we’re like ‘Why does that look like that’ and ‘Why does this look like this… ‘Have you tried that. We now have the wider sidepods more in the direction of what the Red Bull is. I mean it’s not been my decision to go that way. I think it’s been clear that when we dropped the car back on the ground at the first test it was basically the identical twin really to last year’s car except for the bouncing… so maybe the better-looking sister. But still with some of the very similar characteristics apart from the bouncing.”
Lewis Hamilton has talked in detail about how he and Russell have been doing their bit in helping out the Brackley-based team. However, despite the step forward made in Spain, the team is still far behind the mighty Red Bull F1 team. In Barcelona-Catalunya, Mercedes slightly closed some gap to Max Verstappen, and Co. Would they be able to do the same at the upcoming race?
