Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time F1 world champion, has always used his platform for various issues, especially for racial equality. Hamilton believes that fighting for this positive change gives purpose to his life. The Mercedes star uses his success to make a change in the world. Hamilton recently shared a message on social media demanding justice for Ralf Yarl.

16-year-old Ralf Yarl was the victim of an unfortunate shooting that occurred in Kansas City, USA. The young man was supposed to pick up his two younger brothers last week, but he mixed up the address and approached the wrong house. He went to Northeast 115 Street instead of Northeast 115th Terrace. An 85-year-old white homeowner, Andrew Lester, shot the teenager in the head and his right arm. As per the reports, there were no indications that any words were exchanged.

The prosecutor believes that there was a racial component to the case. Ralph Yarl survived the incident and had surgery. Thankfully, he was able to walk out of the hospital. Lewis Hamilton is one among millions who are praying for Ralf Yarl’s speedy recovery. The Briton shared an image on social media stating, “Ralph Yarl is just a kid and was shot for making a simple mistake. Thank God he’s alive, there needs to be justice!!!”

Hamilton, like others, is praying for Ralph’s physical and emotional recovery. This is not the first time the world champion has addressed the issue of race. Previously he drew attention to the shooting of the black medical worker Breonna Taylor. He also used his platform to create awareness for George Floyd. Hamilton wrote on his Instagram after that incident, “I see those of you who are staying silent, some of you the biggest of stars yet you stay silent in the midst of injustice.”

After the killing of George Floyd, Hamilton’s stance encouraged other F1 drivers to speak out against racism. In the words of the Mercedes driver, “People talk about the sport not being a place for politics but ultimately it is a human rights issue and that is something we should be pushing towards.” Hamilton firmly believes and reminds everyone that it is a human rights issue.

The Briton often wore anti-racist t-shirts like “Let’s show compassion” supporting the causes he stood for. Lewis Hamilton also created the Mission 44 Foundation, which aims to support and empower young people from under-represented backgrounds through education and employment. It is not about only winning championships and races for Hamilton. He wants to make an impact and help people.
