Mercedes is working on their 2024 W15 to try and catch up to the champion squad Red Bull after suffering a winless campaign in 2023.

Lewis Hamilton has suffered a winless streak over the past 45 races, unable to stand on the podium’s top step in the last two seasons. Mercedes has tried to rectify their car concept issues to try and compete at the front of the field with Red Bull, making some progress in 2023.

The 2024 challenger, the W15 is reported to be completely different with new components. Hamilton said that he has been attending meetings with department heads to help motivate and encourage the Mercedes crew to assist with developing the 2024 challenger.

The Mercedes W15 will be the first Mercedes vehicle in the ground effect era to begin the season with side-pods, as Mercedes failed to make the zero sidepod concept work in the past two seasons.

Lewis Hamilton took inspiration from other teams to assist with W15 development

The F1 teams’ car development and designing is in full swing, as teams try to make use of the winter break to design their vehicles for the upcoming season best. Mercedes in particular will be trying to produce a race-winning car after a winless 2023 season.

Hamilton has not won with the Brackley-based squad for two years and is assisting car development. Hamilton said that he assisted with comparing the vehicles of other teams to theirs to stimulate ideas and inspiration for the W15.

I just try to help them be positive and to say we can do it. I also looked closely at other vehicles and asked a lot of questions just to stimulate ideas.

Lewis Hamilton has signed a contract extension with Mercedes in 2023 to prolong his time with the team. The Briton hopes that Mercedes will go back to their winning ways soon, catching up to Red Bull.
