Lewis Hamilton struggled during Qualifying at the Mexican GP as Mercedes proved no match for Scuderia Ferrari and Red Bull. The seven-time world champion could only manage to put his car on the third row for Sunday’s race. Now, the 38-year-old has admitted that the Silver Arrows might be overheating issues in the race.

The British driver pointed out that he had faced trouble throughout the weekend in Mexico City. So much so, that the seven-time world champion labeled the W14 as a ‘nightmare.’ Although, Mercedes has made changes over the course of the weekend to make Hamilton more comfortable behind the wheel on the street circuit.

I’ve been struggling all weekend with the car and it has been a bit of a nightmare to drive.

The 38-year-old reckoned that the main race would be difficult for the Silver Arrows. Lewis Hamilton expects Mercedes to struggle with overheating issues throughout the Grand Prix. Although, the seven-time world champion admitted that the team is unaware of how the car would perform in the race on Sunday.

The race is definitely going to be a challenge: we will be overheating the tyres and the brakes, so it won’t be easy to battle the cars around us. I don’t really know what kind of race to expect but it’s going to be on a knife edge.

Lewis Hamilton and George Russell set for a difficult Mexican GP

Mercedes failed to be on par with Ferrari and Red Bull in Qualifying. Charles Leclerc led the two Ferraris to a surprise front-row lockout. Hamilton’s teammate George Russell admitted that it would be difficult for the Silver Arrows to make progress in the race. However, the German squad would be looking to do some damage limitation.

Lewis Hamilton currently trails Sergio Perez by 39 points for second place in the championship. The British driver would start alongside the 33-year-old in the race. However, it is expected that Checo would have an advantage over the seven-time world champion at his home race courtesy of the dominant RB-19.

Mercedes are set to have a difficult race in Mexico. Both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell would be looking to get some points for the team as Ferrari close-up with the Silver Arrows in the standings. However, it remains to be seen if the seven-time world champion can bring home a strong result for the Brackley-based team.
